R.C.D.S.B. Green Schools

Our school is trying to become a green school by doing at least 100 environmental projects.  It is pretty hard for our school to get up to 100 projects because with only 34 students, we are the smallest school in the Renfrew County!  But we're working hard, and so far, we're a silver school.

Here is one of the best projects from each classroom (click on the photos to make them bigger):

styrofoam pirate ships

GRADE: JK/SK

PROBLEM: Styrofoam doesn't break down very well in the dump.

SOLUTION: The kinderkids reused  styrofoam meat trays to make pirate ships which they played with at school, and then took home for the bathtub!

collecting dripping water for plants

GRADE: 1/2/3

PROBLEM: Our tap keeps on dripping (Even though they keep on trying to fix it), and the water was wasted.

SOLUTION: We put a jar under the tap, and when it fills up, we use it to water the plants in our class!

reusable water bottles instead of paper cones

GRADE: 4/5/6

PROBLEM: We have to use a water cooler at our school for drinking water.  The big kids drink a lot and used a lot of paper cones.

SOLUTION: They decided to bring in reusable water bottles and fill those at the cooler instead!

I used free animated gifs from  http://bestanimations.com/  Check it out!
