The older students planted young trees. The picture shows a lilac bush.

Bushes and trees clean our atmosphere using a process called photosynthesis. This is how the process works: the tree, through its leaves, "breathes in" carbon dioxide and then "breathes out" oxygen. The oxygen is good for us, and the carbon dioxide is mixed inside the leaves with water to produce sugars for the tree to use.
