There is a wide range of athletics offered at Mackenzie for all ages and ability levels. There are 2 or 3 age categories in most of the sports—so generally speaking you compete against your own age group. Listed below are some of the many activities that may be available:

Many of our teams become County Champions earning the right to represent the County at the Eastern Ontario Championships (EOSSAA). We often send students to compete at OFSAA (All Ontario Championships). Every year we offer a range of intramural activities at lunch time. These activities are based on student interest and motivation

If you like hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing and canoeing, then Mackenzie Trekkers is for you! As one of the school’s biggest groups, the Trekkers go on several trips every year. In the fall, it’s hiking in Algonquin Park as well as four days rock climbing and hiking in Lake Placid, New York. A snowshoe hike is often planned for the winter. In the spring, a eight-day canoe trip on a major river is planned. You can go on just one or as many trips as you like. Joining Trekkers is one of the best ways to meet new friends and get to know some of the teachers who share your interests.
Concert Band is a performing group of approximately 30 students from Grade 9-12. Over the course of a regular year, concerts (in school and out), fundraising, trips and parties all take place. All levels of ability are welcome to join since all will learn from the experience. It is one of the few on-going extracurricular activities that can stay with you for a lifetime
TACO stands for Mackenzie’s Theatre Arts Company, our drama group. Every fall, TACO puts on a major production for the community - you have probably been to one of the plays over the years.This is another large group that has places for people with many different interests, from actors and actresses to lights and sound, set construction and set painting, stage crew, costume design, makeup and hairstyling.
Are you a trivia buff? Do you know more than the average contestant on Jeopardy? Our Valley Reach Team practices at noon hour a day or so each week.Members are always busy learning everything from the name of the rive that passes through Rome to the name of the headmaster of Hogwarts School.We compete in a round robin tournament with the other teams in our league. We will be looking for some enthusiastic junior members for our team.
This is a club that deals with environmental issues, both internationally and nationally. The club is a student run club in conjunction with the Rotary Club. We have a Rotary member present at all meetings and the club is responsible to the Rotary organization.
“Techies” take care of lights and sound in our auditorium - for band concerts, school assemblies, community events, school plays and the school musical. They are a small group but are very important to the success of all the productions that take place in our auditorium.
At every Student Council assembly, a video is played showing the activities that have taken place at our school. The video team collects footage and produces these excellent videos.
The Student council for next year has already been selected, but that does not mean it is too late for you to get involved! When school begins in August, there will be elections in every homeroom class for a class representative, who will serve in the general assembly of the Student Council. At Mackenzie, the Student Council organizes a great number of special events, including all dances and the Christmas Formal, assemblies, sports pep rallies, spirit weeks, coffee houses and school fun days.
