The Writers’ Workshop led by Allan Stratton, a well-known and prize winning author, was a wonderful experience for the FHS students who attended. Mr. Stratton spent most of the day with the students answering their questions about writing and leading them through a series of exercises designed to help them create interesting characters with goals and obstacles. Students shared their work at the end of the day; Mr. Stratton praised their efforts and provided them with strategies to improve their pieces and discussed ways in which the work could be expanded in the future. The students certainly benefited from Stratton’s experience and expertise. He commented on how receptive the students were to his suggestions and how much he enjoyed listening to their written stories. This is the 5th writers’ workshop FHS has hosted and the 2nd time Mr. Stratton has facilitated.
